Victoria Secret Fashion Show Returns After Four-Year Hiatus with Star-Studded Lineup
The highly anticipated Victoria Secret Fashion Show is back, making a grand return after a four-year absence. The iconic fashion event, which first premiered in 1995, will air on Tuesday, October 15, at 7 p.m. ET on Amazon Prime Video and will be available to stream live on the brand’s social media channels, including YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok.
The 2024 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show promises to be a spectacle, featuring world-famous models such as Tyra Banks, Gigi Hadid, Adriana Lima, Paloma Elsesser, and many more. Banks, who last walked in a VS Fashion Show in 2005, will reclaim her angel wings after two decades, joining other legendary models like Lima, who retired from the event in 2018 but is now returning for this special occasion.
The show’s musical lineup is equally impressive, featuring an all-female roster of performers headlined by Grammy-winning artist Tyla. Pop icon Cher and K-pop star Lisa from Blackpink will also take the stage, showcasing their talents alongside Tyla. This marks the first time that the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show has featured an all-female musical lineup.
The event will officially kick off with the Pink Carpet pre-show at 6:30 p.m. ET, which will be hosted by social media personality Tefi Pessoa and model Olivia Culpo. The Pink Carpet pre-show will be free to watch for all Amazon customers in the U.S. and will offer viewers a glimpse of the glamorous attendees and their stunning outfits before the main event begins.
The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show has been a staple of the fashion industry for over two decades, showcasing the brand’s lingerie and beauty products while featuring some of the most famous models and musical artists in the world. However, the show faced significant challenges in recent years, leading to its cancellation in 2019.
In the late 2010s, the brand and the show faced criticism from customers amid the Me Too movement, leading to the lowest viewership in history for the runway show in 2018. The show drew only 3.2 million viewers that year, marking a significant decline from its peak viewership of over 10 million viewers in 2010.
In addition to declining ratings, the brand was also plagued by controversies, including allegations of a culture of misogyny and bullying within the company. The brand’s former chief marketing officer, Ed Razek, also faced backlash in 2018 for saying that he did not think “transsexuals” should be included in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.
Despite these challenges, Victoria’s Secret has made efforts to revamp its image and become more inclusive and relevant to women. In 2021, the brand split from its parent company L Brands and became a public company. Since then, it has incorporated more diverse and body-positive models in its campaigns and has made strides to address the issues that have plagued the brand in the past.
In May 2024, Victoria’s Secret announced the return of the fashion show, promising a revamped version that would reflect “who we are today.” The brand wrote on Instagram, “We’ve read the comments and heard you. The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is BACK and will reflect who we are today, plus everything you know and love—the glamour, runway, wings, musical entertainment, and more!”
