In a troubling incident that has garnered significant media attention, New England Patriots safety and team captain Jabrill Peppers has been accused by his girlfriend of multiple acts of violence during a domestic dispute early Saturday morning, shortly after his 29th birthday. The allegations include choking, physical assault, and drug possession, leading to Peppers’ arrest in Braintree, Massachusetts.
According to police reports, Peppers’ girlfriend claimed that an argument escalated when she received a phone call during intimate moments, prompting Peppers to demand she leave his apartment. The confrontation allegedly turned violent, with her stating that he choked her multiple times, slammed her head against a wall, and pushed her down a flight of stairs. The woman was found by police with visible injuries, including scratches on her knees and redness on her forehead.
In contrast, Peppers has denied these allegations, asserting that he never physically harmed her. He claims the altercation stemmed from a disagreement over contraception during intimacy, insisting that his girlfriend became enraged when he refused to have unprotected sex. Peppers contends that she fell down the stairs on her own, attributing her injuries to intoxication rather than any actions on his part.
Upon his arrest, authorities discovered a clear plastic bag containing a white powder, which Peppers later admitted was cocaine. He was charged with assault and battery on an intimate partner, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, strangulation, and possession of a Class B drug. At his arraignment, Peppers pleaded not guilty and was released on $2,500 bail. His attorney has stated that they possess video evidence that contradicts the girlfriend’s account and suggests that Peppers will be fully exonerated.
The New England Patriots organization is currently gathering information regarding the incident. Coach Jerod Mayo acknowledged awareness of the situation, stating that Peppers informed him prior to the team’s recent game against the Miami Dolphins, in which he did not participate due to a shoulder injury. The team has expressed its commitment to understanding the facts before taking further action.
