“When Calls the Heart” Star Mamie Laverock on Life Support After Tragic Five-Story Balcony Fall

Mamie Laverock, the 19-year-old actress known for her role as Rosaleen Sullivan on the Hallmark Channel series “When Calls the Heart,” is fighting for her life after a devastating fall from a five-story balcony. The young star, beloved by many for her talent and charm, sustained life-threatening injuries and is currently on life support following the tragic incident.

The heartbreaking sequence of events began earlier this month when Laverock was hospitalized due to an unspecified medical emergency on May 11. Her mother, Nicole Compton, rushed to Winnipeg, Canada, to be by her side and managed to save her life during the initial crisis. Laverock was subsequently transferred to a hospital in Vancouver for further intensive treatment. Despite showing signs of improvement, her condition remained critical.

On May 26, while still under intensive care, Laverock was escorted out of a secure unit within the Vancouver hospital to a balcony walkway. In a tragic turn of events, she fell from the balcony, plummeting five stories and sustaining severe injuries. Her parents, Rob and Nicole Compton, have described their shock and devastation on the GoFundMe page they set up to help cover her medical expenses.

“She sustained life-threatening injuries, has undergone multiple extensive surgeries, and is currently on life support,” her parents wrote. “We are all devastated, in shock, at this intensely difficult time.”

The GoFundMe campaign, which has already raised over 15,000 CAD, details the family’s ongoing struggle and their uncertain hopes for her recovery. The funds are being used to support the family’s daily presence at the hospital and to cover the extensive medical treatments Laverock requires.

Laverock’s co-stars from “When Calls the Heart” have rallied around her family, sharing messages of support and urging fans to contribute to the fundraising effort. Erin Krakow, the show’s lead actress, shared the GoFundMe link on her Instagram, writing, “I just donated. If you have the means to do so, I hope you will too.” Johannah Newmarch, who plays Laverock’s on-screen mother Molly Sullivan, also expressed her heartbreak on social media, stating, “I love this family, my heart is broken. A devastating time for all who care for Mamie. Please help if you can. They need all the support they can get to make it through this.”

Laverock’s acting career began at a young age. She made her debut in the 2012 rom-com “This Means War,” though her scene was ultimately cut from the final version of the film. She went on to appear in “A Series of Unfortunate Events” and the horror film “The Hollow Child.” However, it was her role as Rosaleen Sullivan on “When Calls the Heart” that brought her significant recognition. She joined the cast in 2014, portraying a nursing student whose father was killed in a mining accident, a role that earned her the Young Artist Award in 2015 for Best Performance in a TV Series.

The Hallmark series, based on a book series of the same name, has aired since 2014 and follows the story of a schoolteacher working in a small coal mining town. Laverock’s character was a recurring role across the show’s early seasons, and she returned for the 10th season in 2023.

The news of Laverock’s accident has deeply saddened her fans and colleagues. Hallmark Media released a statement expressing their sorrow: “We are deeply saddened to hear the news about Mamie. As a beloved member of our ‘When Calls the Heart’ community, we wish her and her family peace, comfort, and many prayers during this difficult time.”
